We all know how important heart health is. Now it's time to find out how healthy your heart actually is. The new HeartSmart heart screening program with the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute offers comprehensive screening to make sure you can keep focused on the things in life that really matter.

 

The HeartSmart Screening is offered the first (1st) and third (3rd) Friday of each month. It is by appointment only. The cost is $75 per person.

Preventive Screenings that will be performed include:

  • Lipid Panel and Hemoglobin A1C
  • Blood Pressure Evaluation
  • Body Mass Index
  • Heart Attack Risk Assessment (ASCVD)
  • Electrocardiography (EKG/ECG)
  • ABI Peripheral Artery Disease Assessment
  • Cardiac Calcium Scoring CT Scan

 

Individuals who request to schedule an appointment will be contacted by the CHI St. Vincent Heart Institute with their appointment day and time. Please bring a copy of your current medications the day of your appointment. You will also need to be prepared to remove your shoes, fast for bloodwork, and not wear body lotions or perfumes the day of your scheduled appointment.

 

Who Should Get a Heart Screening?

  • Men Aged 45 and Older- Men in this age group are often recommended to undergo heart screenings.
  • Women Aged 55 and Older - Women above 55 are advised to consider heart screenings.
  • Individuals with a Family History of Heart Disease - Those with a family history, particularly if a close relative experienced heart issues at an early age.
  • People with Existing Health Conditions - Individuals with conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or obesity.
  • Former or Current Smokers - Individuals with a history of smoking or current tobacco use.
  • Inactive Individuals - Those with a sedentary lifestyle and lack of regular physical activity.
  • Individuals with an Unhealthy Diet - People with a poor diet high in saturated fats, cholesterol, and sodium.
  • Overweight Individuals - Being overweight or obese is considered a risk factor for heart disease. It may contribute to conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes, which are associated with cardiovascular issues.
