How many residency spots are available each year? Twelve per year



What are the qualifications to be eligible for appointment?

One of the following:

  1. Graduates of a medical school in the United States or Canada accredited by LCME
  2. Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by American Osteopathic Association.
  3. Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who hold a currently valid certificate from the educational Commission for foreign Medical graduates prior to appointment, hold a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a US licensing jurisdiction in an ACGME specialty/subspecialty program, or graduated from a medical school outside the US and completed a Fifth pathway program provided by a LCMEE accredited medical school.



Does the program sponsor H1B visas? We do not offer H1B visas, however, we do offer J1 visas.



Does the program participate in the match? Yes



What criteria does the program use for evaluating and ranking applicants? The program uses test scores, letters of recommendation, the Dean’s letter, medical school transcript, evidence of written and verbal communication skills, extracurricular activities, and the interview.



How do I schedule an interview? The program will review your information and inform you whether or not you will be granted an interview.



What is the interview like? After being granted an interview, you will be scheduled for an  interview by at least two teams virtually by Zoom. Questions will be standardized. One of the teams will not have access to your academic record.



What questions will be asked in the interview? Interviewers may ask you to explain some of your answers on your application. Questions that address your strengths and weaknesses, and why you have chosen internal medicine may be asked. We may also ask about your personal vision of your future and how our program complements that vision. We also will want to know what attributes that you will bring to our program.



What is the curriculum like? Our curriculum utilizes clinical experience, didactics, and research. Conferences include MKSAP review, Grand Rounds, Complex Case Conference, M & M conference, and Journal Club.



What are the facilities like? CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has 282 beds in a facility opened in 1992. A medical office building is attached. Since 1992, multiple additions and renovations have kept the facility fresh and modern, including a new emergency room, cardiac wing, women’s center, and nursery. CHI clinics are located both on campus and across the town of Hot Springs and surrounding areas. The Continuity Clinic is located in a separate building on campus. Resident areas include a resident lounge with access to food 24 hours. Call rooms, resident work areas, and library are in the hospital and will be newly remodeled prior to July, 2021. The Innovation Center is located next to the resident’ space and is a large conference room with multimedia capability.



Who will be teaching me and what is the faculty to resident ratio? Our faculty is composed of young and seasoned physicians who have a breadth of experience in their specialties. They are eager to share their knowledge and expertise. Most rotations will have a faculty to resident ratio of 1:1. Ward rotations will be 2:1 or 3:1.



Will medical students be on my team? Medical students are assigned to various clinical rotations. Residents are expected to add to the clinical experience of the students.


What are the contract obligations? The Resident Contract will be shared with you upon your application, as well as benefits overview, salary information, vacation policy, and policy on recruitment and selection.
